Film-Ocean, together with parent company STAPEM Group, has taken delivery of a new SMD Atom ultra-compact work-class ROV, completing the fleet investment programme announced last year.
The new Atom has been selected for Boka Komodo and is scheduled to be mobilised later this year for a long-term opportunity in Angola.
The delivery follows two SMD Quantum 250-hp heavy-duty work-class ROVs received in October 2025 and January 2026. Film-Ocean now has six SMD vehicles in its fleet, including two Atom systems.
The SMD Atom delivers 100 hp and is rated for operations at depths of up to 3,000 m. Its compact design allows deployment from a range of vessels while reducing the amount of deck space required.
Film-Ocean said the latest delivery adds to its capacity to support subsea operations. The company identified West Africa, Asia and Norway as key areas of focus.
Mike Mackie, Operations Director at Film-Ocean, said the Atom provides operational flexibility on projects where vessel size or available deck space may limit ROV deployment.
The new Atom joins the company’s SMD Quantum systems as part of its work-class ROV fleet.
