ExxonMobil has proposed a new exploration and appraisal drilling campaign in the Stabroek block offshore Guyana, covering 35 wells across four prospect areas.
Guyana’s Environmental Protection Agency has opened a 28-day public consultation period for the proposed work. The agency is seeking written submissions on issues that should be addressed in the project’s cumulative impact assessment.
The exact spud locations have not yet been finalized. The drilling campaign is planned to be completed in nine phases.
Operations are scheduled to begin in 2028 and continue through the end of 2033. The program would run at the same time as other drilling activities in the area.
The proposed work includes exploration and appraisal drilling and may also involve vertical seismic profiling, well testing, sidetracking, and plugging and abandonment after operations are completed.
The campaign is planned about 200 km offshore Guyana in the Stabroek block, where ExxonMobil, Hess, and CNOOC have already discovered more than 11 billion barrels of oil equivalent resources.
ExxonMobil is currently producing 900,000 barrels per day in Guyana and plans to lift capacity to 1.7 million barrels per day by 2030.
