Eiffage subsidiary Smulders and NEPTUN WERFT have secured a second offshore grid contract from 50Hertz Transmission GmbH for a 2GW converter platform serving the LanWin3 grid connection project in the North Sea.
The contract will be carried out through the NSORe joint venture. NSORe will be responsible for system design, procurement, construction, onshore and offshore installation, and commissioning of the platform.
The award follows a similar contract secured in June for LanWin6, where the consortium also includes Siemens Energy. The two NSORe contracts have a combined value of about €2.5 billion ($2.8 billion).
Siemens Energy will provide the high-voltage components for both platforms. Manufacturing will be divided between Germany and the Netherlands.
The platform topsides and main buildings will be produced at the NSORe shipyard in Rostock-Warnemünde. Smulders will fabricate the steel jacket substructures at its Vlissingen facility. Most of the work and services under the two contracts will take place in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
The LanWin3 onshore converter station will be built at Mühlenbeck near Schwerin. LanWin3 and LanWin6 will connect to the NordOstLink HVDC transmission corridor and a multi-terminal hub in Heide, Schleswig-Holstein.
