DEME Group has ordered a new 22,000 m³ trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) to strengthen its dredging fleet.

The vessel is designed for capital and maintenance dredging, land reclamation and offshore seabed preparation. DEME said the new TSHD is expected to improve productivity while reducing greenhouse gas intensity and the cost per dredged cubic meter.

Christopher Iwens, Managing Director Dredging at DEME, said the vessel is a strategic investment in the company’s dredging fleet. He said the TSHD combines material productivity gains with improved fuel efficiency and will be adaptable for future fuels and automation.

The vessel will be built under DEME’s supervision. Its main structure will be constructed in China, while outfitting and final completion will take place in Singapore in line with European maritime standards.

Delivery is scheduled for 2029.
