BW Offshore has completed the interim performance test for FPSO BW Opal as commissioning continues at the Barossa LNG project offshore northern Australia.

The vessel is working at the Barossa gas field, which is operated by Santos. The project partners are Santos with 50%, PRISM Energy International Australia with 37.5%, and JERA with 12.5%.

The completed test verified that the FPSO’s core production, processing and utility systems are operating together and can deliver stable performance under production conditions.

Gas production and export have continued since output resumed in early May 2026. During the current ramp-up and commissioning stage, BW Offshore said production is being coordinated closely with Santos.

BW Offshore said it remains focused on safe and stable operations, completing the remaining commissioning work, and reaching practical completion. That milestone will begin the vessel’s long-term firm contract period.

FPSO BW Opal is positioned about 285 km offshore Darwin in Australia’s Northern Territory and is expected to feed the Darwin LNG plant for the next 20 years.
