Wood Thilsted has secured the detailed foundation design contract for the 1.5 GW Outer Dowsing offshore wind project, covering up to 100 monopiles. The planned wind farm is located 33 miles off the Lincolnshire coast.
The consultancy announced the detailed foundation design contract on 19 October 2026. It follows the company’s completion of front-end engineering and design (FEED) earlier in 2026, extending its involvement into the next engineering phase.
Site conditions and structural performance will inform the foundation designs, alongside construction requirements and environmental considerations. Project director Matthew Simms said the work would draw on the understanding of the site developed during FEED and two years of cooperation with the Outer Dowsing team.
Simms outlined an approach combining information about the site and subsurface with structural requirements and installation constraints within one engineering team.
Outer Dowsing is being developed by a consortium comprising TotalEnergies, Macquarie and Broadhelm Renewables, and Gulf Development. The wind farm is expected to generate electricity equivalent to the needs of 1.6 million homes.
According to Wood Thilsted, investment in the UK associated with the project is estimated at approximately £2 billion over its lifetime. The development is expected to support skilled construction employment numbering in the thousands, followed by hundreds of jobs during more than 30 years of operation.
