Aker BP Gets Consent for Noble Interceptor and Deepsea Nordkapp in North Sea

The Norwegian Ocean Industry Authority (Havtil) has granted Aker BP consent to use Noble Interceptor and Deepsea Nordkapp for separate operations at the Valhall and Øst Frigg fields in the North Sea.

At Valhall, Aker BP has received consent to use Noble Interceptor as an accommodation unit. The rig will provide accommodation during offshore completion of the PWP project.

Valhall is located in the southern part of the Norwegian North Sea in a water depth of 70 m. The field was discovered in 1975, and its initial plan for development and operation (PDO) was approved in 1977. Production started in 1982.

The original Valhall development comprised separate facilities for accommodation, drilling and processing. PDOs were later approved for a wellhead facility in 1995 and a water injection platform in 2000. Two wellhead platforms on the northern and southern flanks received PDO approval in 2001.

A Valhall redevelopment PDO was approved in 2007, including the PH accommodation and processing platform, which replaced older facilities at the field. The PH platform receives power from shore. The PDO for Valhall Flank West, which includes a normally unmanned wellhead platform, was approved in 2018.

Havtil has separately granted Aker BP consent to use Deepsea Nordkapp for production drilling and completion at Øst Frigg. The rig will drill and complete four production wells for the Øst Frigg tie-back project in the Yggdrasil area, covering production licences 873 and 442.

Øst Frigg is located in the central North Sea, 4 km east of the Frigg field, in a water depth of 100 m. The field was discovered in 1973, and its PDO was approved in 1984. It was developed with two subsea templates and a central manifold station tied to the Frigg field.

Production at Øst Frigg started in 1988 and ended in 1997. The subsea templates were removed in 2001. Øst Frigg is now being redeveloped as part of Hugin in the Yggdrasil area.
