Mammoet has completed heavy lift and marine transport activities for the Munin topside being delivered by Aibel for Aker BP’s Yggdrasil development in the North Sea.
Aibel is responsible for the EPC delivery of the Munin topside. Construction has taken place at its Haugesund yard, supported by modules and sections supplied from the company’s yard in Thailand.
Contracted by Aibel in late 2023, Mammoet carried out a series of transport, load-in and load-out operations in Thailand and Haugesund. In Thailand, the Utility Module was moved from the fabrication site to the nearby quayside and loaded onto a Marine Transport Vessel for shipment to Haugesund.
After arrival in Haugesund, the Utility Module and other sections were unloaded from the Marine Transport Vessel. Shallow water conditions at the quayside required a transshipment to a smaller barge before the cargo could be brought to the quayside and moved into Aibel’s assembly hall.
The Utility Module was then positioned and mated with the Munin process module. The work was carried out under tight positioning tolerances and challenging winter weather conditions.
In July, the completed topside was weighed to confirm its final weight and centre of gravity before load-out. It was subsequently transferred onto the topsides transportation barge in a Class 1 operation conducted within a narrow tidal window.
The final scope also included moving the fully assembled Munin topside from the quayside in Haugesund for barge load-out. Following completion of these activities, the topside has been prepared for departure from Haugesund.
