Cimolai Technology has shipped the first of two Goliath cranes, each rated with an 800 t lifting capacity, from Chioggia to the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone.

The crane was transported fully assembled and tested aboard the semi-submersible heavy-lift barge BOABARGE 38, eliminating the need to dismantle the structure before shipment. The transport marks a key stage in the delivery programme for the two cranes.

Before loading, the crane was moved through the customs area at Porto Val da Rio on a self-propelled modular transporter (SPMT) convoy. Two Panfido tugboats supported the tide-assisted loading operation, and Cimolai Technology confirmed that the crane had been secured aboard BOABARGE 38 on 31 July 2026. The barge departed Chioggia for Monfalcone on 4 August 2026.

According to Cimolai Technology, BOABARGE 38 arrived in Chioggia on 15 July 2026 for the transport campaign. The semi-submersible barge is 152 m long and has a cargo capacity of 28,500 t.

Each Goliath crane stands 110 m high with a track gauge of 118 m. The cranes are designed to lift up to 800 t individually or up to 1,600 t when operating in tandem.

The cranes were assembled and tested at Cimolai Technology‘s facility in Porto Val da Rio. ACCS fabricated the structural components, while Cimolai Technology managed the design, construction, assembly and testing before shipment.

The project was launched under a 24-month programme for two Goliath cranes destined for Fincantieri Monfalcone. The second crane is also scheduled for delivery to the shipyard.
