dship Carriers has taken delivery of MV John, the first vessel in its D500 multipurpose newbuilding series.
The company confirmed that the vessel has joined its fleet following the completion of the design, construction and delivery process. Additional vessels in the series are expected to enter the fleet.
According to NSB Group, the D500 vessels have a deadweight of 14,999 tonnes and measure 149.95 m in length and 23.5 m in breadth. They are fitted with Liebherr cranes providing combined lifting capacity of up to 500 tonnes.
The D500 design places the deckhouse on the starboard side to provide additional deck space for project and heavy cargo. dship Carriers previously stated that the design offers approximately 50% more cargo-hold and deck capacity than its earlier design basis.
The D500 programme was announced in March 2024 with a contract covering four 15,000 dwt-class multipurpose vessels.
In April 2026, dship Carriers and NSB Group established Hinode Shipmanagement to manage six D500 newbuildings scheduled for delivery between June 2026 and the end of 2027.
Under the arrangement, NSB Group oversees construction and provides selected services, including accounting and crewing. dship Carriers is responsible for commercial management and contributes technical expertise.
