Haizea Wind Group has delivered monopile foundations from the Port of Bilbao to Ørsted for the 2.9 GW Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm in the North Sea.
The monopiles have a diameter of 11 m and measure more than 105 m in length. Haizea Wind Group said the components are the largest structures manufactured in the Iberian Peninsula and rank among Europe’s largest monopiles.
Hornsea 3 is under construction approximately 120 km off the Norfolk coast. Once fully operational, the project is expected to supply electricity to more than 3.3 million UK homes.
Preparation and load-out work involved several logistics companies at the Port of Bilbao. Grúas Aguado handled transport and preparation activities within the manufacturing facility as Haizea Wind Group’s logistics partner.
Cadeler was responsible for the load-out and load-in operations. Mammoet transported the monopiles using self-propelled modular transporters.
The Port of Bilbao manufacturing site covers more than 200,000 square metres and includes six production halls and a storage area for towers and monopiles. More than 900 people are employed at the facility.
Haizea Wind Group began production at the Bilbao plant in 2018. The group operates across wind towers, offshore foundations and large castings for the wind industry, and employs more than 1,500 people.
In 2025, Haizea Wind Group reported revenue of more than €400 million and net profit of €20 million.
