Steelwind Nordenham has completed the manufacture and delivery of 34 monopiles for the 1.5 GW Baltica 2 offshore wind farm in the Polish Baltic Sea.
The final two units have arrived at the company’s port facility, concluding its production and delivery scope for the project. Van Oord worked with the manufacturer during the final load-out operations.
Around 56,000 tonnes of steel were processed for the 34 foundations. The largest monopiles are approximately 102 m long, have diameters of up to 10.5 m and weigh as much as 1,884 tonnes.
Baltica 2 will use 111 monopiles in total. Of these, 107 will support wind turbines and four will serve as foundations for the project’s offshore substations. The remaining 77 monopiles were awarded separately to the Navantia and Windar Renovables consortium.
Van Oord is contracted to transport and install all 111 foundations. The installation scope covers the turbine monopiles and the four foundations allocated to the offshore substations.
The wind farm is being developed as a 50/50 joint venture between Ørsted and PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna. The developers reached a final investment decision in January 2025.
Located approximately 40 km from the Polish coast near Ustka, Baltica 2 will comprise 107 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 14 MW. Siemens Gamesa is supplying the turbines, while Cadeler and Fred. Olsen Windcarrier have installation contracts for the turbine fleet.
Baltica 2 is expected to be fully commissioned in 2027.
