Saipem is preparing its multipurpose DP3 heavy-lifting and pipe-laying vessel JSD6000 for work on the Neptun Deep gas development in Romania’s Black Sea waters.

The vessel is currently at the Port of Genoa, where it is moored at the San Giorgio del Porto shipyard. Preparatory work includes technical, maintenance and upgrade activities on key systems, with particular focus on pipe-laying equipment to meet project requirements.

Delivered in June 2024, JSD6000 is equipped for both S-Lay and J-Lay operations and is designed for deepwater work. The 215 m vessel has a full revolving heavy lifting crane with 5,200 t capacity.

Its J-Lay system has 1,500 t laying capability and 2,000 t holding capacity for quadruple and triple joints. The vessel also has an S-Lay system with 900 t holding capacity in accidental conditions and a modular stinger operated by a patented handling system.

After preparations are completed, JSD6000 will be deployed to the Neptun Deep project, where it will support subsea installation work. The vessel will install subsea infrastructure in the deepwater area and connect the wells to the production platform.

OMV Petrom, the Romania-based affiliate of OMV, is developing Neptun Deep with Romgaz. The project is expected to require up to €4 billion of investment and is targeting first gas in 2027.

Neptun Deep includes an offshore production platform, three subsea systems and ten production wells. Four wells have already been drilled at Pelican South, while six are underway at Domino. The development also includes an onshore gas metering and control station at Tuzla.
