The semi-submersible heavy lift vessel SUN RISE is transporting the final transition pieces (TPs) manufactured by CS WIND Offshore for Dominion Energy’s Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) development in the United States. With this shipment, CS WIND Offshore has completed the final TP delivery for the CVOW project.

The last units departed the company’s facility at Port of Aalborg, marking the conclusion of a load-out programme that began in April 2024. The company reported that all phases of the campaign were executed safely and without operational incidents.

The scale of the TP scope was significant, using steel plate volumes that, if laid in a line, would stretch 38 km, and involved the installation of 211 km of cable across the full project. Each transition piece is 26.6 m high; together, the full series reaches 4,681.6 m, equivalent to nearly 13 Eiffel Towers stacked vertically.

This shipment represents CS WIND Offshore’s largest TP delivery to date. Reflecting on the project, Søren Uhrenholt Hermansen, VP, Project, Transition Pieces, highlighted the collaboration with Dominion Energy, designer Ramboll, and internal teams, and noted the progress achieved since the contract was signed four years earlier.

CS WIND Offshore stated that the experience gained from the CVOW scope will support upcoming work.

The semi-submersible heavy lift vessel SUN RISE is currently located in the UK Coast & Atlantic region with an ETA to Norfolk on 8 December 2025, according to a ship tracking service. The vessel sails under the Korean flag, has a length overall (LOA) of 168.5 m, and a width of 40 m.

In August 2025, German heavy-lift and engineering specialist SAL announced that it had purchased SUN RISE and another vessel of the same type, SUN SHINE, from Pan Ocean of Korea, with delivery scheduled between October 2025 and April 2026.
