Royal Wagenborg has announced the successful completion of its first Roll-on/Roll-off (RORO) transport of a massive lock gate in Emden, Germany, marking a significant milestone in its infrastructure logistics portfolio.

The operation involved the movement of a 2,500-tonne lock gate—exceeding 3,000 tonnes in total weight—using 136 axle lines of Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs). The structure was rolled onto the seagoing pontoon Wagenborg Barge 10 (100m x 33m), with tug Waterstad ensuring safe positioning during the maneuver.

According to project manager Wouter Siemerink, the achievement reflected “craftsmanship from engineering to ballasting,” crediting Wagenborg’s heavy transport, engineering, and towage teams for their precise coordination.

The project demonstrates Wagenborg’s growing presence in infrastructure logistics, combining advanced equipment and expertise across its divisions. Two additional lock gates are scheduled for transport in the coming months.
