Vietnam’s Precious Prestige Trading and Logistics (PPL) has marked a milestone for the country’s heavy-lift logistics industry by successfully executing the site-move and loadout of a record-breaking offshore substation topside weighing nearly 4,000 tons. The massive structure, fabricated by Petrovietnam Marine Shipyard (PV Shipyard) over two years, was transported and launched entirely with Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMT) operated by PPL.

The operation, conducted at PV Shipyard Port in Vung Tau in June 2025, involved a module measuring 58 meters long, 39 meters wide, and 37 meters high. To complete the move, PPL deployed 156 axle lines and six power pack units, supported by an experienced in-house team. Company chairman Do Hoang Phuong highlighted that Vietnam has historically relied on foreign contractors for such projects, and this successful independent execution demonstrates the nation’s growing mastery of engineered logistics.

PV Shipyard executives emphasized that the achievement showcases Vietnam’s ability to fabricate and manage large-scale offshore energy components to international standards. The project also strengthens the country’s capacity to support offshore renewable energy development, particularly as wind power expands across the region.

This landmark project follows PPL’s recent handling of other large-scale moves, including a 3,200-ton jacket and nearly 800 oversized shipments for offshore wind projects earlier this year. Together, these accomplishments underline Vietnam’s advancing role in global heavy-lift logistics and its ability to compete in the complex offshore energy sector.
