UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported a security incident involving a tanker 63 nautical miles west of Yanbu, Saudi Arabia, at 6:37 UTC on 24 August 2026.
According to UKMTO, the vessel’s Company Security Officer reported that a projectile of unknown origin hit the tanker. A fire subsequently developed on the main deck.
Everyone aboard the vessel was confirmed safe. UKMTO also recorded no reported environmental impact from the incident.
Yemen’s Houthi movement has attacked several vessels linked to Saudi Arabia since imposing a maritime blockade on the country on 22 July.
Marine insurers have also cancelled certain war risk covers for ships operating in parts of the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean.
