Siemens Energy has installed its first lightweight integrated offshore substation at the Yuetuo Island Offshore Wind Farm in China, marking the first offshore deployment of its High-Voltage TranSwitch Unit (HV-TSU) concept.
The company said the HV-TSU design brings key high-voltage components together in a more compact arrangement, reducing the weight of the topside while maintaining the reliability required for offshore operations.
The unit is part of the Guodian Tangshan Leting Yuetuo Island Offshore Wind Farm Phase I project, which has a total installed capacity of 304 MW.
The offshore substation has a design capacity of 300 MW. Its topside measures 45 m in length, 38 m in width and 23 m in height, with a total weight of approximately 1,700 tonnes.
Nantong Zhenhua Heavy Equipment Manufacturing was responsible for construction of the topside module, jacket foundation and steel pipe piles.
Siemens Energy said the lighter, integrated configuration is intended to reduce infrastructure weight and project complexity in offshore wind developments.
The installation at Yuetuo Island is the first application of the company’s HV-TSU concept at an offshore wind project.
