Saipem and Jan De Nul have signed a letter of intent with ExxonMobil for preliminary work on the Rovuma LNG Phase 1 development in Mozambique.

The agreement covers limited engineering, procurement and other technical services to support further project definition and execution planning. The initial value of the activities covered by the LOI is approximately €11 million.

A final engineering, procurement, construction and installation contract for the consortium remains subject to a positive final investment decision by the Area 4 partners, together with the required government and regulatory approvals. These steps are expected in 2026.

The planned offshore development will connect gas from Area 4 to the onshore Rovuma LNG facilities. The upstream scope includes 18 subsea wells connected through a network of subsea pipelines and manifolds.

ExxonMobil said the Area 4 co-venturers had selected the Saipem and Jan De Nul consortium for the offshore EPCI scope associated with Rovuma LNG Phase 1.
