The planned deployment of the Osman Gazi floating production unit to the Sakarya Gas Field in the Black Sea has shifted from late September to late October.
Türkiye’s Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar confirmed the latest schedule during a visit to Filyos Port on 17 September 2026. The Osman Gazi is undergoing reactivation work at Filyos and is expected to depart for its operating location by the end of October.
Revised Timetable
The revised timetable follows an earlier schedule announced in August. At the time, Bayraktar said the FPU was expected to leave Filyos at the end of September and enter service during the fourth quarter of 2026.
The current target is to flare first gas from the Osman Gazi by the end of 2026.
Unit Specifications
The FPU has a maximum natural gas processing capacity of 10.5 million m³ and a maximum gas transfer capacity of 10 million m³. TP-OTC expects the unit to contribute to increasing Black Sea gas production to 20 million m³/day.
The Osman Gazi measures 298.5 m in length, 56 m in breadth and 29.5 m in depth. Work carried out on the unit included module removal, steel and plate renewal, deck reinforcement and maintenance of existing equipment.
Preparations at Filyos Port
Preparations for the FPU are continuing at Filyos Port. Bayraktar said around 7,000 people are involved in the work, which includes 642 km of electrical cabling and nearly 30 km of piping.
Saipem’s Role
Saipem is also involved in the preparations for the Osman Gazi. The company announced on 8 September 2026 that GOE Petrol Sanayi had awarded it a contract for commissioning services on the FPU.
The commissioning work is expected to last about eight months. The award follows an Operation Readiness & Assurance support services contract that Saipem received in April 2026 for the same unit.
Field Details
According to Saipem, the Sakarya Gas Field is located about 170 km offshore in the Turkish Black Sea at a water depth of around 2,150 m. The field is being developed by Turkish Petroleum Corporation.
The Osman Gazi is now expected to leave Filyos for its operating location by the end of October, while the target for first gas remains the end of 2026.
