GPO Heavylift’s semi-submersible heavy transport vessel GPO Emerald has completed the loading of a topside structure at Karimun, Indonesia, destined for the Neptun Deep gas development in the Black Sea.

The vessel departed the Indonesian loading location on 2 June 2026 and began its long-haul transportation campaign toward Romania. The route is to pass around the Cape, with the voyage estimated to take approximately 45 to 47 days, subject to weather and operational conditions.

The cargo forms part of the Neptun Deep development, a major offshore natural gas project located in Romania’s deepwater sector of the Black Sea. The field lies within the XIX Neptun Block, around 160 km offshore, in water depths ranging from 100 m to 1,000 m.

Neptun Deep is regarded as the largest offshore natural gas development project within the European Union. Once brought into full production, the project is expected to significantly increase Romania’s gas output and strengthen its position within the European energy market.

The transportation of large offshore structures from Asian fabrication yards to European project sites highlights the continuing role of heavy marine transport vessels in supporting complex offshore energy developments.
