Firefighting continued for a third day aboard the cargo Ro-Ro BLUE CARRIER 2 after the vessel was moved to a sheltered position southwest of Tinos, Greece.

The Hellenic Coast Guard said on 27 September that a salvage company, assisted by tugs, had relocated the vessel from the area north of Mykonos. Five tugs remained on scene, while firefighting continued because active fire pockets were still present on board. The Tinos Port Authority is investigating the incident.

The fire broke out at 08:57 on 25 September while BLUE CARRIER 2 was operating its scheduled Piraeus–Syros–Vathy–Kos–Rhodes–Kos–Piraeus service, according to Attica Ferries. The vessel was carrying 166 trucks and 29 passenger vehicles. Its 28 crew members and one truck driver were evacuated safely and taken to Tinos.

Attica Ferries later appointed specialist companies to handle environmental protection measures and management of the vessel’s condition in cooperation with the authorities.

On 26 September, eKathimerini reported that the ship had developed a slight list to starboard after large volumes of cooling water were used. Dewatering was planned to improve stability before a specialist team entered the vessel to assess the interior.

News24/7 reported on 27 September that BLUE CARRIER 1 would be added to cargo services serving Samos, Kos and Rhodes following the incident. General cargo trucks to Samos were also expected to continue on the scheduled BS MYCONOS service three times a week.
