Equinor and its partners have completed wildcat well 6507/8-D-4 CH in the Norwegian Sea, but the well did not prove petroleum.

The well was drilled in production license 124, about 240 km west of Sandnessjøen, at the Heidrun Cellar SE prospect beneath the Heidrun field.

The operation used Transocean’s semi-submersible drilling rig Transocean Encourage. It was the tenth wildcat well drilled in the license, which was awarded in 1986 under licensing round 10-B.

Equinor operates the license with ConocoPhillips, Petoro and Vår Energi as partners.

The well targeted deeper stratigraphic levels below the Heidrun field, with reservoir objectives in the Early Jurassic Åre Formation and Late Triassic Grey Beds.

Drilling found sandstone layers in the Åre Formation and Grey Beds with a combined thickness of about 161 m. Reservoir quality was described as good to very good.

No formation test was performed, but data were collected. The location has a water depth of 357 m, and the well has been permanently plugged and abandoned.
