RWE is examining an incident at the Port of Esbjerg in Denmark after turbine components on Brave Tern struck another vessel and the dockside on 10 June.
The Fred. Olsen Windcarrier jack-up installation vessel had been loaded with turbine parts for the 1.1 GW Thor offshore wind farm off Jutland. RWE said the authorities were informed after the collision.
No injuries have been reported. One person was taken to hospital for a medical check-up, according to the developer.
Video footage of the incident appeared to show turbine blades on Brave Tern being damaged after hitting a quayside crane. RWE said it is still checking what caused the incident and how much damage was sustained by the vessel and cargo.
Brave Tern was upgraded in 2024 with a 1,600 tonnes crane supplied by Huisman. According to Fred. Olsen Windcarrier, the vessel can carry three complete turbine sets per voyage.
The first Siemens Gamesa turbine, rated at up to 15 MW, was installed at the 72-turbine Thor offshore wind farm in March. The installation campaign is planned to finish by the end of the year.
Siemens Gamesa and Fred. Olsen Windcarrier also directed comment requests to RWE.
