Norwegian oil and gas operator Aker BP is extending the deployment of DrillDocs’ AI-powered CleanSight digital shaker surveillance system across its contracted rig fleet on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS).
The expansion follows a framework agreement covering technology development and deployment after the solution was validated on the Noble Integrator rig. According to the companies, the system helped reduce non-productive circulating time and enabled earlier identification of cavings, which can indicate developing wellbore instability.
Tommy Sigmundstad, Senior Vice President Drilling & Wells, Supply Chain & Logistics at Aker BP, said the agreement reflects the company’s goal of advancing safe, efficient and lower-emission operations through digital technologies. He noted that the combination of AI and advanced camera systems is expected to strengthen drilling performance, improve operational safety and support the company’s digital transformation efforts.
The latest deployment has been completed on Deepsea Nordkapp, operated by Odfjell Drilling, representing the next phase of the planned fleet-wide rollout.
By providing near-real-time information from drilling operations, the CleanSight system is intended to help drilling teams respond more quickly to conditions developing in the wellbore. The technology is designed to reduce the risk of pack-off events and limit the operational delays and costs associated with stuck pipe recovery.
Calvin Holt, Founder and CEO of DrillDocs, said the company’s computer vision platform captures and interprets operational data that can contribute to improved drilling efficiency and safety. He added that advances in camera technology and data science enable the system to assess hole-cleaning performance and identify drilling or wellbore stability issues as they occur, allowing corrective action to be taken before problems escalate.
The framework agreement is also expected to support additional technology initiatives currently being discussed and developed by Aker BP and DrillDocs for offshore drilling operations.
