ABL has secured a contract from OWP Gennaker to provide marine warranty survey (MWS) and marine assurance services for construction of the Gennaker offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea.

Gennaker, developed by Skyborn Renewables with Stadtwerke München, has a planned capacity of up to 976.5 MW. The project is located about 15 km north of the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula.

Under the contract, ABL will provide MWS and marine assurance services for marine operations during construction. Its scope includes technical review and approval of project documentation, marine suitability and HSE inspections of the proposed vessel fleet, and attendance and approval of warranted marine operations.

The work will be led by ABL‘s operations in Hamburg. Construction activities for Gennaker will take place within Germany’s 12-nautical-mile zone in the Baltic Sea.

Gennaker reached financial close on 11 September 2026. Skyborn Renewables said the project secured a €2.1 billion non-recourse financing package from 16 commercial lenders and the European Investment Bank.

According to Skyborn Renewables, the project is mobilising more than €3 billion of investment and is scheduled to enter commercial operation by the end of 2028.

Foundation transportation and installation will be carried out by Seaway7 under a contract awarded by OWP Gennaker. The company’s scope covers the transportation and installation of 63 monopiles and transition pieces, with offshore activities expected to begin in 2027.

Gennaker will be connected to the German transmission network through 50Hertz‘s OST-6-1 grid connection. The system is designed to transmit a maximum of 927 MW from the wind farm and includes three 220 kV submarine cable systems connected through two offshore substations.

The OST-6-1 cable route between the offshore facilities and the Gnewitz substation will extend up to about 90 km. This includes up to 53 km in the Baltic Sea and approximately 35 km onshore.
