Deugro has successfully executed the transport and delivery of 58 kilometers of Prysmian-manufactured subsea HVAC cables, weighing a total of 3,550 metric tons, for the Cyclades IV Interconnector Project. The shipment originated from Prysmian’s production site in Pikkala, Finland, and was delivered to Heraklion, Crete, before being transferred to the installation vessel on schedule.
To manage this complex operation, deugro provided an integrated logistics solution including a 23-meter-diameter carousel spread, customized spooling equipment, engineering support, and vessel chartering. The heavy-lift deck carrier Vestvind was selected and underwent major modifications in Rotterdam and Vlissingen to handle the cable-loading system. After a ten-day spooling operation at the factory port, the vessel sailed south and completed the unspooling in Crete within seven days, maintaining the project timeline.
Executives highlighted that securing the only suitable vessel and mitigating severe weather risks along the Finland–Crete route were among the key challenges. “This project reflects deugro’s strong expertise in offshore cable logistics and its ability to deliver under demanding conditions,” said Kasper Heiselberg, Head of Global Wind Renewable Energy.
The successful completion marks a milestone for deugro Milan and its global renewables team, reinforcing the company’s role in advancing offshore grid connections and supporting Europe’s transition to renewable energy.
