Yinson Production has obtained main scantling approval for its Meridian Hull, a purpose-built design intended for future floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) projects. The approval was granted by American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), marking an important milestone in the company’s push for standardized, cost-efficient FPSO construction.
The Meridian concept introduces a pre-approved hull design that can be adapted to different field developments while maintaining efficiency in construction and operation. By receiving ABS endorsement at the scantling level, Yinson is able to reduce lead times for project execution, as shipyards can begin construction without awaiting project-specific approvals.
According to Yinson, the design emphasizes modularity, safety, and sustainability, aligning with industry demand for quicker deployment and lower lifecycle costs. The hull can be configured for a wide range of water depths and production requirements, making it suitable for multiple regions.
ABS’s approval is widely regarded in the offshore sector as a benchmark for technical reliability. By achieving this milestone, Yinson positions itself as a competitive player in the evolving FPSO market, where operators are increasingly seeking standardized solutions to mitigate risk and shorten development schedules.
This step comes amid a steady global demand for FPSOs, with energy companies continuing to prioritize offshore oil and gas developments alongside investments in low-carbon initiatives.
