Milan-based freight forwarder deugro has completed the delivery of 58 kilometers of Prysmian HVAC subsea cable, weighing 3,550 metric tons, to the transshipment port of Heraklion, Crete, supporting the Cyclades IV Interconnector Project.
This HVAC interconnector aims to link the Southern and Western Cyclades to Greece’s mainland grid. deugro’s scope spanned from cable collection in Pikkala, Finland, to final delivery in Crete, encompassing logistics design, engineering services, cable spooling, staffing, and the deployment of a 23-meter-diameter carousel spread. Critical preparations—including installation of a loading tower, deck tensioner, and auxiliary deck equipment—were conducted in Rotterdam and Vlissingen. The heavy-lift deck carrier Vestvind was secured to facilitate both transport and spooling operations.
After nearly ten days of spooling in Finland, the cable was safely loaded and sailed to Crete. Unspooling onto the cable-laying vessel was completed within seven days, ensuring that the project schedule remained on track. The Vestvind then returned directly to Rotterdam for demobilization and handover.
Kasper Heiselberg, Head of Global Wind Renewable Energy at deugro, called the milestone a testament to the company’s proficiency in complex offshore logistics, while Nils Sauerborn and Project Manager Francesco Pignati praised the operational collaboration across deugro’s Milan and Rotterdam teams.
