LD Armateurs (LDA) has acquired three platform supply vessels (PSVs) under construction for conversion into cable-laying ships serving subsea telecommunications operations. The three planned LDA cable-laying vessels are scheduled to enter service in the first quarter of 2028, according to the company’s 5 November announcement.

The PSVs are due for delivery in the second quarter of 2027. After delivery, they will move to a conversion yard for installation of cable-operation systems before entering service.

Each vessel will have capacity for 2,800 tonnes of cable and will be equipped for subsea cable installation and repair. LDA said the ships will use hybrid-electric propulsion to improve energy efficiency and reduce CO₂ emissions.

LDA is also establishing the LDA Academy to recruit, train and support the professional development of future crews. The programme will serve the cable business and the planned entry into service of three methanol- and wind-powered RoRo vessels. The company said the academy will provide structured training and facilitate career movement across its business activities.
