JSI Alliance has completed the transport of four rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes from Cork, Ireland, to Khor Fakkan, where the equipment was delivered to port operator Gulftainer aboard the heavy lift vessel Fairplayer.
Each crane weighed approximately 150 tonnes, placing the cargo well within the vessel’s lifting capacity. Fairplayer is equipped with two deck cranes, each rated at 900 tonnes.
Despite the relatively modest weight of each unit compared with the vessel’s lifting capacity, the dimensions and configuration of the RTG cranes required detailed planning and engineering preparations.
The loading operation in Cork involved JSI Alliance‘s project team and the vessel’s crew, including Senior Port Captain Patrick Lieuw. The team completed the operation before the vessel transported the cranes to their destination.
According to SAL‘s official announcement, all four RTG cranes have arrived safely in Khor Fakkan, where Gulftainer plans to deploy the equipment in its port operations.
The shipment was carried out using Fairplayer‘s onboard heavy lift equipment. The vessel has also been used for other project cargo operations, including a module discharge in Rotterdam.
The latest delivery involved handling four large port cranes whose dimensions and configuration required specific engineering considerations, despite their individual weights being substantially below the vessel’s rated lifting capacity.
