HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has completed DNV Detailed Design Verification for its in-house developed standard 500MW offshore substation model, completing the design verification process for the platform.

The company said the verification is the first international certification of its kind for a Korean offshore substation project covering design suitability and safety in accordance with applicable global codes and standards.

The latest verification follows FEED Verification completed in August 2025, which covered the design concept and technical feasibility of the 500MW offshore substation. Detailed Design Verification was completed in August 2026, extending compliance checks to detailed engineering associated with fabrication and installation.

With the verification process completed, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has established the 500MW OSS as a standardized Ready-to-Build platform for application to upcoming offshore wind projects in Korea and overseas.

An offshore substation steps up the voltage of electricity generated by offshore wind farms before transmitting it onshore. The verified 500MW model has been developed as a standardized platform for large-scale offshore wind projects.

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has also localized key equipment used in the platform. The company expects the standardized design and domestic supply chain to support its participation in offshore wind projects at home and abroad.

The company said it plans to continue developing its standardized OSS designs while supporting the growth of the domestic supply chain and expanding its participation in offshore wind projects.
