Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has completed the fabrication and delivery of 110 modules weighing approximately 64,000 t for Project CERES, Australia’s largest urea manufacturing plant, being developed in Karratha, Western Australia.
The 2.3 MTPA plant is being developed by Perdaman Chemicals & Fertilisers under the Saipem-Clough Joint Venture.
The modules were fabricated at L&T’s Modular Fabrication Facility in Kattupalli near Chennai, India, and transported to Karratha in 23 marine shipments. They were shipped in tested, pre-commissioned and ready-to-install condition.
The scope comprised 47 Pre-assembled Units and 63 Pre-assembled Racks. Fabrication, equipment installation, integration, testing and pre-commissioning were completed at Kattupalli before shipment to Australia.
According to L&T, the project recorded 37 million safe workhours and complied with Australian biosecurity and Electrical Equipment in Hazardous Areas requirements.
Dimensional, quality and interface controls were applied during the project to support integration of the modules at the Karratha site.
A number of complex equipment items installed in the modules were manufactured at L&T’s Hazira facility in Gujarat, India.
The Kattupalli Modular Fabrication Facility covers 900,000 sq m and has dedicated marine load-out infrastructure. Its annual fabrication capacity exceeds 70,000 t.
For Project CERES, the facility handled module fabrication, integration, testing and shipment before final delivery to Western Australia.
