Vectura Resource has coordinated the delivery of a 10,000-tonne floating power barge from Bangladesh to Port Sudan, Sudan, with the 100 m-long unit transported aboard the semi-submersible heavy lift vessel Hua Yang Long.
Loading operations in Bangladesh took place during the monsoon season, restricting safe working conditions to short periods in the early morning. The operation required coordination of weather conditions, tug movements and the loading process within those limited windows.
Several tugboats, including azimuth stern drive (ASD) tugs, were deployed to position and control the barge as it was prepared for loading onto Hua Yang Long.
The transport schedule also required contingency planning as weather conditions and vessel movements changed. Vectura Resource assessed options including anchoring outside Sudanese territorial waters while coordinating the barge’s onward movement to Port Sudan.
Hua Yang Long is a China-flagged heavy load carrier with IMO number 9743710. Built in 2015, the vessel has an overall length of 228.1 m, a beam of 43 m and a deadweight of 52,037 t.
The barge subsequently reached Port Sudan. It is intended to support civilian power generation and supply electricity to critical infrastructure in Sudan.
