Chevron has reported a new hydrocarbon discovery from the 105-4X exploration well in Block 0 offshore Angola, where drilling identified both oil and gas condensate.
The well, drilled by Chevron subsidiary Cabinda Gulf Oil Company Limited (CABGOC) in the Lower Congo Basin, found a hydrocarbon column of more than 600 m in the Pinda reservoir. Net pay exceeded 90 m.
Chevron will evaluate the discovery for possible development through a tie-back to nearby facilities already operated by the company.
Block 0 is operated by CABGOC, which holds a 39.2% working interest. Sonangol E&P owns 41%, while TotalEnergies holds 10% and Azule Energy 9.8%.
The company is currently producing around 300,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day net across Sub-Saharan Africa and is continuing exploration activity in several countries in the region.
In Nigeria, Chevron farmed into offshore blocks PPL2000 and PPL2001 last year and received deepwater block PPL2010 in the country’s latest bid round. Since late 2024, the company has also recorded exploration successes at Meji NW-1, South Delta AA and Awodi-07, with exploration and appraisal work continuing.
In Guinea-Bissau, Chevron has secured three blocks. These include Block 4B, which closed on 13 August 2026. The company has also secured reconnaissance licences covering five blocks in Equatorial Guinea.
Further exploration activity in Angola is under way in Blocks 49 and 50, Block 33 and Block 14/23.
Chevron is also preparing a multi-well exploration programme across the region. The planned work includes the Nabba-1X well on PEL90 in Namibia before the end of 2026.
