CS WIND Offshore has shipped the first transition pieces for Vattenfall’s Nordlicht I offshore wind farm from the Port of Aalborg in Denmark.
Each transition piece weighs around 362 tonnes. DEME will transport and install the units at the project site in the German North Sea and is also installing the Nordlicht I monopiles.
The first monopile was installed on 1 July at the site, which is located about 85 km north of Borkum.
In January 2025, Vattenfall and its project partner at the time, BASF, awarded contracts to EEW Special Pipe Constructions for monopile fabrication and CS WIND Offshore for the supply of transition pieces for Nordlicht I and Nordlicht II.
Earlier this year, Vattenfall reported that the first monopiles and transition pieces for Nordlicht I had been completed ahead of schedule. The transition pieces are being manufactured by CS WIND Offshore at its Aalborg facility.
Nordlicht I has a capacity of 980 MW, while Nordlicht II is planned with a capacity of 630 MW. The two offshore wind farms will comprise 112 V236-15.0 MW wind turbines supplied by Vestas, including 68 units at Nordlicht I and 44 at Nordlicht II.
The combined 1.6 GW cluster is expected to generate around 6 TWh of electricity per year once fully commissioned.
Nordlicht I is scheduled to enter commercial operation in 2028.
