Boskalis and Van Oord have been awarded a dredging contract worth approximately EUR 500 million for the Malmporten Project at the Port of Luleå in Sweden.

The contract was awarded by the Swedish Maritime Administration and the Port of Luleå. The value will be divided equally between Boskalis and Van Oord.

The joint venture will deepen the port’s fairway and harbor basin. The work will allow the port to receive vessels with a draft of up to 14.7 m and a cargo capacity of up to 85,000 tons.

Project execution is scheduled to start in spring 2027. The dredging work will take place during ice-free seasons and is planned for completion before mid-August 2030.

The project will use trailing suction hopper dredgers, backhoe dredgers, grab dredgers, and drill and blast platforms.

Environmental measures will include silt screens, bubble curtains, environmental buckets, turbidity monitoring and dredging techniques designed to reduce environmental impact.
