The offshore construction phase of the Bozhong 26-6 Oilfield Development Project (Phase II), described as the world’s largest metamorphic rock oilfield development, has been completed after the final platform was loaded out in Tianjin’s Binhai New Area on 16 June 2026.

Located in the central Bohai Sea, the Bozhong 26-6 field has reservoirs in Archean buried-hill metamorphic rock formations at depths of more than 4,500 m. Its proven geological oil and gas reserves exceed 200 million cubic meters. The first phase of the project started production in February 2025.

Phase II covers two new wellhead platforms, with each platform comprising a jacket and topside module. Both platforms are designed for unmanned operation. After completion of onshore fabrication, the structures are moving to the central Bohai Sea for offshore installation.

Topside construction used an integrated fabrication method at the Tianjin intelligent manufacturing base of Offshore Oil Engineering Co., Ltd.. Welding robots, equipment upgrades, and process optimization improved welding productivity by about 20%.

The Bozhong 26-6 development is also a key carbon capture and utilization demonstration project in the Bohai oilfields. It supports research into regional geotechnical conditions and bearing-capacity behavior, while contributing to energy supply security and low-carbon development in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and the wider Bohai Rim.
