Aker BP has increased its ownership interest in the Johan Sverdrup unit, one of the largest producing oil fields on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.
After the completed redetermination process for the Equinor-operated field, Aker BP’s stake will rise to 31.7163% from 31.5733%.
The process started in January 2025 and followed the unit agreement. It included an expert determination and revised the partners’ ownership shares using updated technical and production data.
Historic investments and production volumes will now be reallocated among the partners. Aker BP will receive an additional 2.2 million barrels of oil equivalent over the next two years, reflecting the adjustment of past production volumes.
The company will pay about NOK 300 million, or $31.7 million, before tax. The payment relates to the reallocation of historic investments.
Aker BP said the redetermination will not affect ongoing operations at Johan Sverdrup, which continues to deliver strong performance.
The announcement follows a recent move by Equinor and Aker BP to seek closer alignment in key shared areas on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. The companies are targeting transactions in the Troll-Fram, Yggdrasil and Wisting areas to support future developments and maintain high production levels.
