Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has signed a Letter of Award (LOA) with U.S.-based Delfin Midstream to perform the Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Installation (EPCI) scope for the first floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) unit of the Delfin LNG export project located offshore Louisiana.
According to Delfin Midstream, the project is moving toward a Final Investment Decision (FID) targeted for late 2025. The LOA allows SHI to begin early engineering and preparation activities ahead of the full contract award. The first FLNG unit will be built using SHI’s proven FLNG design and will be fabricated at the company’s shipyard in South Korea.
Delfin Midstream stated that its FLNG system will operate offshore the U.S. Gulf Coast and be connected to existing onshore natural gas pipelines. The company also indicated that two additional FLNG units are being considered after the first unit reaches FID.
The agreement marks Samsung Heavy Industries’ participation in Delfin Midstream’s first FLNG unit under the U.S. LNG export project. SHI has previously delivered large-scale floating LNG facilities for international clients and will apply its experience to support Delfin’s U.S. offshore development.
