Late-January storms worsened cracking and buckling on the grounded MSC Baltic III near Lark Harbor, Newfoundland. Salvors found heavy icing; nearly 1,700 tonnes of fuel and most containers were removed.

Grounded since February 2025, the MSC Baltic III off Newfoundland has suffered further hull damage from winter storms, as the Canadian Coast Guard and T&T Salvage stabilise the wreck and remove oil and cargo.

The grounded container ship MSC Baltic III has sustained damage amid strong winds and rough seas on Newfoundland’s west coast. The Canadian Coast Guard confirmed movement in the vessel and debris washing ashore.

Eight months after grounding in Newfoundland, the MSC Baltic III remains in Cedar Cove as crews remove fuel, cargo, and prepare the vessel for winter, according to the Canadian Coast Guard.
