Sarens has completed lifting, weighing, transport and load-out work for the South Ndola offshore project in Angola, including a 1,150 t jacket and a 575 t topside.
The development is led by Cabinda Gulf Oil Company Limited, a subsidiary of Chevron, in Block 0. It is located about 60 km offshore from the Malongo Terminal in Cabinda.
South Ndola includes a four-leg jacket with a mud mat secured by four pin piles, a drilling topside designed for 12 production wells and tie-back infrastructure connecting the wells to the existing Mafumeira production and processing platform.
The work was carried out in two phases. During the first phase, Sarens mobilised a Liebherr LR 1750/2 heavy-lift crawler crane from Antwerp, Belgium, to Angola for the lift of the 375 t Process and Distribution Module.
The scope included international shipping, local sea and road transport, crane assembly and installation of the module onto the Deck Distribution Platform. The lift formed part of the topside assembly ahead of offshore deployment.
The second phase covered the weighing, transport and load-out of the jacket, pin piles and topside. Sarens deployed 48-axle SPMTs, 20 200 t load cells and load-spreading systems.
The Caroline barge was equipped with grillages, mooring winches, ballast pumps and steel bridges for the load-out operations.
At Porto Amboim, Caroline was pre-ballasted and positioned at the quay before the pin piles and 1,150 t jacket were weighed, transported and secured on board. Sea and weather conditions were monitored throughout the operation.
After the jacket was installed offshore, the 575 t topside was weighed, transported and loaded onto Caroline at Malongo for deployment.
The work involved multidisciplinary teams from engineering, operations and marine logistics across Sarens’ global hubs.
