RWE has opened a new offshore wind control center in Jemgum, an East Frisian municipality in Germany’s Leer district.
The site will act as a 24-hour operations base for monitoring and controlling RWE’s offshore wind farms in Germany and continental Europe.
The facility was built by local company Real Immobilien. Around 50 RWE employees will be based at the new location.
Completed in about 12 months, the two-story building provides around 1,120 sq m of floor space. It includes office areas, meeting rooms and a dedicated control room. Staff facilities include large break areas with kitchen space, a conservatory and a fitness room.
The outdoor area includes bicycle parking, about 50 car parking spaces and electric vehicle charging points.
The building was developed with sustainability measures in place. Recycled materials were used during construction, while energy-efficient design features were included in the facility. A rooftop solar system supplies part of the building’s electricity demand, and further measures have been installed to reduce water use.
