Fugro has been selected by Petrobras to carry out a geotechnical site investigation for the Rio de Janeiro Offshore Wind Pilot Project off São João da Barra.
Petrobras said the 18 MW project is the first offshore wind development in South America to move forward under a formal environmental licensing process.
Under the scope, Fugro will gather Geo-data at four coastal and shallow-water locations and also conduct onshore investigations. The work will cover soil sampling, in situ testing and laboratory analysis.
Field activities and analysis are due to start in April and continue through Q3 2026. Final reporting is scheduled for 2027.
The project will be delivered by Fugro’s Brazil-based teams. Nearshore operations will be run from the Rio das Ostras hub, while laboratory analysis will be performed at the Pinhais facility.
Céline Gerson, president and group director for Fugro in the Americas, said early Geo-data is important in reducing uncertainty and helping offshore wind projects build a technical foundation at an early stage.
