Belgian LNG shipping and infrastructure company Exmar has entered a strategic partnership with EemsEnergyTerminal, a subsidiary jointly owned by Gasunie and Vopak, to ensure continued operation of the Eemshaven LNG import terminal in the Netherlands beyond 2027.

Under the new collaboration framework, Exmar will own and operate two Floating Storage and Regasification Units (FSRUs) with a combined LNG storage capacity of approximately 190,000 cubic metres. The agreement includes the deployment of a newly converted, next-generation FSRU designed to enhance the terminal’s efficiency, operational reliability, and regasification flexibility.

The partnership represents a significant milestone in strengthening energy security and supply diversification for the Netherlands and Northwest Europe, amid ongoing efforts to reduce dependency on pipeline gas imports and expand LNG infrastructure capacity.

Exmar stated that it looks forward to close cooperation with EemsEnergyTerminal and other stakeholders to deliver the project’s next development phase and maintain uninterrupted LNG import capacity beyond 2027.
