Seatrium has won a contract to convert five Karpowership powerships and integrate their generating equipment. Announced on 23 October 2026, the agreement covers the Turkish company’s third-generation Whale Class vessels. The contract amount was not disclosed.
Engineering is underway, and December 2027 is the target for the first vessel to reach Seatrium‘s Tuas Boulevard Yard in Singapore. The scope includes equipment integration, mechanical completion and pre-commissioning.
Each vessel is designed to supply up to 600 MW of electricity. The official contract announcement describes a hydrogen-ready, multi-fuel generating system, with onboard substations providing connections to national grids. Karpowership says the plug-and-play design enables power generation to begin in as few as 30 days.
For Seatrium, the award represents its first major conversion and integration project involving Karpowership‘s Whale Class vessels, according to Alvin Gan, the company’s executive vice president for repairs and upgrades.
An August 2025 letter of intent had covered three floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) conversions and possible integration work on up to six new-generation powerships. Five powerships are included in the newly announced contract.
The companies began their FSRU conversion programme in 2018. Seatrium delivered the seventh FSRU in September 2026 and secured contracts during 2026 for the programme’s eighth and ninth conversion projects.
