Croatia’s Iskra Shipyard and South Korea’s HD Hyundai Heavy Industries have entered into a teaming agreement covering naval, commercial and specialised shipbuilding. Signed in Šibenik, the agreement sets out plans for cooperation on future Croatian Navy projects and other maritime work.

The partners intend to share technology and expertise, develop Croatian suppliers and help shipbuilders in Croatia and Europe compete more effectively. Their plans also include a network bringing shipyards and local equipment makers together with technology businesses, educational institutions and research organisations.

Iskra Shipyard will contribute its manufacturing and engineering resources, while HD Hyundai Heavy Industries will bring experience gained from building warships, commercial vessels and offshore structures.

The partnership follows Iskra Shipyard‘s acquisition of 3. Maj Shipyard in Rijeka, adding that yard’s capacity to its existing operations in Šibenik.

In its announcement, Iskra Shipyard also identified passenger ferries, RO-PAX projects, unmanned surface vessels and maritime autonomy as areas for potential collaboration.
