EEW Special Pipe Constructions (EEW SPC) is progressing with a series of monopile loadouts for Ørsted’s Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm, transporting steel foundations measuring up to 93 m and weighing nearly 1,700 tonnes for onward shipment to Teesworks in the UK.
Almost half of the 11 planned loadouts have been completed, while around one-third of the monopiles manufactured by EEW SPC for Hornsea 3 have been handed over to Ørsted. EEW SPC said its production programme is running ahead of schedule, with the next loadout planned for early September.
The loadout operations use self-propelled modular transporters in a 3×28 axle configuration to move the monopiles across the quay. EEW SPC has also designed and fabricated hydraulic saddles and developed ramp solutions for transfers between the berth and transport vessel.
The components are being shipped to Teesworks for the Hornsea 3 foundation installation programme. Steel River Quay at Teesworks is being used as a logistics base for monopiles and secondary steel for the project. According to Teesworks, Cadeler is supplying vessels for Hornsea 3 operations from the quay.
Cadeler is responsible for the full transportation and installation scope covering Hornsea 3’s 197 monopile foundations. The contractor installed the project’s first complete monopile foundation on 14 May 2026 using Wind Ally, its A-class offshore wind installation vessel.
Hornsea 3 will have a capacity of 2.9 GW and will use 197 monopile foundations. Offshore foundation installation is continuing after the first unit was installed in May 2026.
Teesworks previously confirmed that Ørsted selected Steel River Quay to support Hornsea 3 logistics, with Cadeler operating installation vessels from the facility.
EEW SPC said teams from Ørsted, Cadeler and BigLift are working with its personnel during the current loadout campaign.
