Orient Cable has installed China’s first 66kV floating wind dynamic cable for China Three Gorges Corporation’s 16MW floating offshore wind demonstration project.

Located about 70 km offshore, the project features what Orient Cable describes as the world’s largest single-capacity floating offshore wind platform currently in operation. The installation marks a technical milestone for China’s floating offshore wind development.

The dynamic cable was designed and installed by Orient Cable’s in-house team. The company also used next-generation ROV support to improve visibility and control during subsea operations.

According to Orient Cable, the cable uses an innovative steep-wave configuration designed to withstand wave heights of more than 20 m and support 25 years of service in severe marine environments.

Orient Cable said the project was carried out with China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG) and other partners as part of its work to advance integrated dynamic cable solutions for the energy transition.
