NGI and OYO Corporation signed a memorandum of understanding on 3 June 2026 to cooperate on offshore wind projects, joint research, and knowledge sharing in Japan.
The agreement was signed during the Japan-Norway Ocean Future Forum in Tokyo by Noel Boylan, Managing Director of NGI’s Perth office, and Tsukasa Endo, Executive Officer of the Energy Business Division at OYO Corporation.
Under the MoU, the two organizations will combine NGI’s offshore geotechnical engineering and foundation design expertise with OYO Corporation’s local knowledge and offshore site investigation capabilities for Japanese offshore wind projects.
Founded in 1954, OYO Corporation is one of Japan’s geoscience and geo-engineering consulting firms, with experience in offshore site investigation for the Japanese offshore wind market. NGI has more than 50 years of experience in offshore geotechnical engineering.
The cooperation covers joint projects, joint research, and technical knowledge sharing. Areas of common interest include site characterization in Japanese conditions, seismic and geohazard assessment, advanced laboratory testing, and foundation design for offshore wind, including floating wind turbines. The partners also intend to pursue joint research and publications.
The two organizations already have joint projects planned for the coming months and are developing further work together. NGI recently visited OYO Corporation’s facilities in Japan, and OYO Corporation is expected to visit NGI’s office and laboratory in Perth. The agreement may later extend to activities beyond Japan.
